Aquila

Two boys bunking off from a geography field trip stumble over Aquila (it means ‘eagle’ in Latin) in a cave. They've no idea what it is or what it does, but Geoff finds that, when you sit in it, these coloured lights come on. And if you push one of the big blue ones... it flies!

I always wanted to have a spaceship when I was a boy. Comes of reading all those Dan Dare stories, I suppose. And this was exactly the sort of machine I wanted to own!

This book was the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year in 1997, and got the Silver Smarties Award as well. You can get a copy from Amazon.
