Aquila

Winner of the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year 1997

Two boys bunking off from a geography field trip stumble over Aquila (it means 'eagle' in Latin) in a cave. They've no idea what it is or what it does, but Geoff finds that, when you sit in it, these coloured lights come on. And if you push one of the big blue ones... it flies!

I always wanted to have a spaceship when I was a boy. Comes of reading all those Dan Dare stories, I suppose. And this was exactly the sort of machine I wanted to own!
